We can become unwell, or not feel our best for many different reasons. I provide holistic massage, an effective way to bring the mind, body and spirit to optimum wellbeing.
Regular massage treatments are highly recommended for maximum and long lasting health benefits. Like other therapies, it is not just looking to treat the symptoms, but to establish the cause, whether it be internal or external. The aim is to rebalance the body so it achieves homeostasis or balance.
The initial session
In the first session, in confidence we can discuss the issue that you would like to address and the best way forward for you; as part of this session I will ask you to complete an initial consultation asking general questions around your health and wellbeing.
If you wish to fill out the consultation form to bring with you, please download it here.
I take a holistic approach to massage, meaning that I see importance in considering all aspects of a person’s life that might be affecting ailments; physical, emotional, social and environmental. The treatment is not not just looking to treat the symptoms, but to establish the cause, whether it be internal or external. Click here to ask a question.
One of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax and rejuvenate the entire body. Beyond relaxation, the slow strokes, friction, kneading and tapping movements used in Swedish massage can reduce stress by lowering the heart rate, and the overall experience eliminates stress while replicating the movements of the circulatory system.
There are many physical benefits associated with this type of massage such as relieving symptoms of disorders such as asthma, headaches and IBS. Swedish massage drains metabolic waste from the limbs and increases blood flow, which delivers oxygen and nutrients to the muscles leading to reduction in pain, inflammation and stiffness.
Furthermore many people report improvements in length and quality of sleep, relief of symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Deep Tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure. Deep Tissue massage focuses on more specific areas of the body and during your treatment you can expect the use of fingers, thumbs, knuckles and elbows to be used to apply the needed pressure.
This treatment aims to help release muscle holding patterns and to stretch and lengthen tissue, thereby correcting poor postural patterns. Deep Tissue massage has many benefits including:
- helping to loosen muscle tension
- aiding the release of toxins from muscles
- allowing blood and oxygen to circulate properly throughout the body
- helps in increasing flexibility and helping to heal old injuries
Pregnancy Massage is a deeply relaxing and restorative treatment tailored entirely to your needs and your stage in pregnancy. It has many benefits to help you adjust physically, as well as emotionally, to the changes that you and your body will go through during this time
The treatment can help provide relief from muscle cramps, spasms, and muscular pain, especially in the lower back, neck, hips, and legs, and ease swelling on weight-bearing joints.
Massage increases blood circulation providing oxygen and nutrients to both Mother and baby; increasing energy levels. It can help to relieve stress, headaches and anxiety caused by the hormonal changes and relax the nervous system by releasing endorphins into the body, helping you sleep more easily and more deeply.
Your comfort and safety come first, and pregnancy massage is usually performed in side-lying position or semi-reclining, and supported by specially designed body support cushions. No aromatherapy oils will be used only pregnancy safe oils.
Pregnancy massage should not be undertaken until after 3 months.
In the third trimester, I offer advice and exercises suitable for labour, and where suitable, partners are welcome to the treatments to watch and learn these techniques to assist their partners during labour.
We offer treatments for those whose due date has come and gone. The treatments incorporate a combination of acupressure, massage and reflexology which can encourage your body to bring about a natural start to childbirth.
Birth is a wonderful experience and often birth partners want to be involved. A great way is to offer them some simple techniques to help and support you during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period. Birth partners are welcome to attend to watch and learn massage techniques in these sessions to assist their partners during labour.
Pregnancy massage can be carried out from the first trimester onwards. Please note that it is intended to support and not replace the essential antenatal care provided by your GP, midwife or obstetrician.
