How hypnotherapy can help you

Hypnosis is the method that helps your unconscious mind make positive changes to your behaviour and habits quickly and easily, by changing your thought patterns and feelings for so many issues.

The term hypnosis can conjure up many ideas about what being in a trance may be like, when all of us already know and experience it on a daily basis. A hypnotic state is simply an altered state of awareness, where we are more susceptible to making changes while still being fully in control for ourselves. Examples of hypnotic states are, when our eyes are closed, when we are drifting off to sleep (hypnogogic state), when daydreaming, or when on autopilot – having driven from A to B and not been able to recall the journey (or stages of it).

Hypnotherapy is effective in breaking old undesirable habits, like smoking, weight gain/loss, drug addiction or excessive drinking, replacing them with positive behaviours. Making positive changes to any unhelpful behaviours can be achieved.

It can be used to increase positive states of mind; increase confidence, address depression and raise your overall level of happiness and enjoyment of life.

Hypnotherapy can also be used to enhance your success in business, sport, love and almost any field you can think of. The possibilities of hypnosis are endless!

Physical wellbeing can be improved with hypnosis to manage pain, irritable bowel syndrome, headaches and improving length and quality of sleep.

Hypnotherapy techniques help quickly and effectively process uncomfortable/distressing emotions and reframe unhelpful thoughts, whether linked with past events/memories, current situations or fears for the future. With this process, the physical symptoms we can experience as a response to anxiety or trauma memories can quickly reduce and disappear.

What to expect

In may situations, it is helpful to address issues with a combination of hypnotherapy and counselling, and this would be agreed with you along with your preferences. In a hypnotherapy session, the therapist will guide you into a relaxed, focused state and ask you to think about experiences and situations in positive ways that can help you change the way you think and behave. See the About me page for techniques used. Unlike some dramatic portrayals of hypnosis in movies, books, or on stage, you will not be unconscious, asleep, or in any way out of self-control. You will hear the therapist’s suggestions, but it up to you to decide whether or not to act on them. Hypnotherapy differs from counselling in that in many circumstances we can work on issues and make the changes you wish to make, content free, meaning you won’t need to talk in any detail about the issue or problem faced.
